〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Rock Light, a.k.a. DLN-001 or Mega Man
CHARACTER AGE: Physically, about 2 or 3, mentally and appearance-wise, about 12-ish.
SERIES: Archie Comics’ Mega Man
CHRONOLOGY: Issue #48, after the final fight with Gamma.
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Opt-in housing at Heropa.
BACKGROUND:
Summarizing Rock’s path from regular bot to super fighting robot would take a bit too long, so have a <url=http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/mega_man_(character)/archie_comics>background link to help fill in the blanks.
Mega Man, nee Rock, alternately designated as DLN-001, is the second ‘son’ of renowned inventor Dr. Thomas Light, and the first of the original line of Robot Masters, which involved him, his sister, Roll, his brothers Cut, Bomb, Guts, Fire, Ice and Elec Man . Initially developed to be a lab assistant and all-around ‘civilian robot’ (read as: son), he volunteered to be redesigned as a combat robot after the betrayal of Dr. Light’s friend and colleague, Dr. Albert Wily, who stole and reprogrammed everyone but him and his sister (being overlooked due to being robots that weren’t designed for industrial use/easily repurposed for combat) in a bid for world domination, due to being tired of being permanently in Dr. Light’s shadow. As the titular super fighting robot, Mega Man has fought Dr. Wily, his reprogrammed brethren, rogue robots, Dr. Wily, aliens, anti-robotics terrorists, his own misguided brotherknown only as Racer X, and did we mention Dr. Wily? All of these baddies fought in a bid for everlasting peace. A mantle that Rock has grudgingly put on his shoulders.
Along the way, in addition to fighting many villains, he’s aided by many friends. His sister and father, his robotic companion Rush, the geological survey robot Tempo, created by Dr. Noele Lalinde, Russian inventor Mikhail Cossack and his daughter, Kalinka, the various Light Number bots, and (occasionally), his own misguided brotherknown only as Racer X. Oh, and Dr. Wily once. I guess. It’s complicated.
He also once aided an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog save both their friends, but that’s in weird crossover verse and vaguely based in the future. Maybe? TIME TRAVEL.
Rock’s most current adventure is, of course, once again brought about by the wicked Dr. Wily. Pretending to have reformed after being under the thrall of a technopathic alien by the name of Ra Moon, he has been working behind Dr. Light’s back to assemble his latest bid for world domination including the Diverse Operations Circuit Robot and the plans to hijack the peacekeeping robot, Gamma. Aided and abetted by Rock’s erstwhile brother, Blues, Dr. Wily betrays Dr. Light at the eleventh hour of Gamma’s assembly, with Doc Robot and Blues in tow. Heartbroken and embittered, Dr Light surrenders his laboratory and Gamma to protect his family. Rock, enraged, pursued Wily, Doc, and Blues to settle the score - one last time. Having fought the peacekeeping giant known as Gamma and brought him down - and Gamma, in turn, having brought down all of Wily’s Fortress - the maniacal doctor is, at this very moment - presumed deceased.
Of course, we all know he isn’t - but poor Rock doesn’t know that.
PERSONALITY:
Rock is almost as childlike in his demeanor as he is in his appearance, complete with the childlike innocence you would expect of someone Rock’s appearant age. Anchored in Isaac Asimov’s <url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/three_laws_of_robotics>Three Laws of Robotics, Rock has a strong, innate sense of justice and ability to tell right from wrong. A pacifist by nature, if not by deed, Rock considers violence a last resort, as he is very sympathetic to human and robot alike. This sympathy extends throughout his entire personality - Rock is very emotive, and some would say wear his heart on his sleeve. When he had gotten too full of himself and tantrumed to the point of scaring Roll, Rock dropped to his knees, declared himself as evil as Wily, and sobbed. While perhaps a bit of an overreaction, it shows just how much Rock cares about others, and how much he is hurt by others being hurt.
This egotism is also, ironically, why Rock is also exceedingly humble. Constantly keeping himself in check, Rock has been the victim of his own ego at least once before, with Wily having exerted control over him with his assembling of powers. A great web-slinger that Rock would have no knowledge of once said “with great power comes great responsibility”, and Rock, master of many powers, takes this statement straight to his capacitor, refusing to keep those special abilities for any longer than necessary.
Among all this, though, is the tinge of world-weariness you would not expect of someone of Rock’s size and stature - while not bitter, Rock shows rustration and despair at seeing people constantly endangered by his fellow robots, and of his fellow robots being abused and misused by people like Dr. Wily. While wearing his emotion engine ofn his sleeve, it’s hard for him to hide his exhaustion with battle - he would not shirk his duty, but nor does he want to be the machine of war many would portray him as. With this world-weariness comes a glimpse of maturity and responsibility that many would not see.
POWER:
Rock’s a robot, and with that, comes the usual benefits that being made being a child built by his father brings - Rock is tougher, stronger, and quicker on his feet than your average Joe. (Though not that much stronger, he’s no Guts Man.) While childlike, he is clearly a robot, though he does have <url=http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/megaman/images/6/66/rock_%28no_suit%29_.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110523002547>civilian duds. The civilian form keeps him from accessing his stronger powers, of which is his signature weapon - the Mega Buster. A convertible arm-cannon that can be formed on either hand, it converts solar energy into shots of plasma that can do reasonable damage to various bots. The Mega Buster can also be charged to deliver a more powerful shot to any bot too resilient to handle the Mega Buster’s standard fire.
But the real feather in Rock’s robo-cap, so to speak, is the power of the Copy Chip and Variable Weapons System. Given to him to fight his reprogrammed brethren (though the Variable Weapon System was first a Variable Tool System, initially used to copy tools around the lab), it allows him to replicate the design specifics, abilities and weapons of his fellow robots, upon making physical contact with them to scan them. Doing so and switching to a copied weapon, however, disables the Mega Buster, as Rock’s system can only support one weapon at a time, and all special copied weapons have limited ammo, based on their function and power. A weaker skill might have a lot of uses, whereas a powerful ‘screen-clearing’ style power may only have one or two.
(Due to the nature of how imPort branding works, I’m going to say Rock’s copy ability here extends to anyone with an imPort tattoo. Though, as a result, Rock’s system will automatically purge any weapons that he runs out of energy to use. Copying someone’s ability will also require OOC permission from the player I wish to copy from, and I plan to put up a player opt-in.)

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
Okay, this is the communications hub, right? Uh, guess I should introduce myself.
My name’s Rock - or uh, Mega Man, I guess. Serial Number DLN zero-zero-one. I’m - well, I was a lab assistant, but one thing lead to another, and… then I had to fight other robots. It… happens more often than you’d think.
Are there any workshops or laboratories around here? I ask, partly because I’ve never actually handled self-repair before and, well, I tend to get dinged up pretty quickly in the heat of battle.
I’d also love to know if there’s any other bots out there! Lightbots? Anyone out there but me? Sound off!
Anyway, I guess that’s enough of a message to start out with. Rock signing out!
